Vitamin E and tocopherols

Research-supported

What it is

Commercial vitamin E (tocopherols) used as an ingredient or preservative is typically extracted from soybean oil. Sunflower-derived tocopherols exist but are less common and usually called out on the label when used.

Relevant concerns

  • Soy

Tocopherols are most often soy-derived unless the label specifies an alternative source (e.g., "sunflower-derived vitamin E").
